Last year was an especially challenging time for us. As the recession caused many local businesses to tightent their belts, we saw our advertising revenue drop. In response, we too tightented our belts.
We now have a one-person editorial departmetn, a one-person production crew and a sales team of just two people. Another employee handles circulation, billing, advertising services and - frankly anything else that needs to be done.
My wife (on a part-time basis) and I are the only other employees at the newspaper. |
We put our printing job out for bid last year and ended up saving a few dollars by switching to a new supplier. We are also considering ways to reduce our distribution costs.
Like many of you, we have trimmed our sails and are preparing to ride out this economic storm. I am confident, though, that we will survive and end up even healthier than before.
